Ozark Reservoir Survey Analysis
Aden Jenkins is examining and documenting the Ozark Reservoir collections, housed at the University of Arkansas Collection Facility in Fayetteville. These collections include artifacts from 59 sites located in the Arkansas River Valley areas of Franklin, Crawford, and Sebastian counties. The sites were visited and small collections were made in 1965 during the Ozark Reservoir survey. This survey was conducted by Dr. Michael P. Hoffman of the University of Arkansas Museum, with the assistance of the Western Arkansas chapter of the Arkansas Archeological Society. Funding was provided by the National Park Service.

Jenkins is producing a general inventory that will enable us to select sites with diagnostic late prehistoric/historic artifact assemblages. After these sites are selected, Jenkins will create a detailed inventory and an analysis will be performed to determine if the artifacts meet the Carden Bottoms phase criteria. All artifacts will be documented using the same protocols outlined in the discussion of the NMAI artifact inventory. This project will enable us to better establish the western limits of Carden Bottoms phase site distributions. |
