Arkansas Archeology Month is an annual event designed to broaden the public’s interest and appreciation for Arkansas’s archeological resources and to encourage the public’s participation in conservation and preservation efforts. Archeology Month is cosponsored by the Arkansas Archeological Survey (ARAS) and the Arkansas Archeological Society (AAS). It is made possible through the efforts of supporters throughout the state at parks, libraries, museums, and other agencies and organizations who provide a wide variety of programs, exhibits, hands-on activities, and tours. Please join this fun and educational month-long event by planning a program for Archeology Month. We love being able to give as many people as possible the chance to experience something about archeology in a way that they enjoy learning.
Archeology Month lends itself to diverse programming opportunities including hands-on activities, in-person talks by expert speakers, craft demonstrations, exhibits and book displays, and large Open House type gatherings. Other event ideas include: a virtual guest speaker, pre-recorded readings and demonstrations, and outdoor activities like tours and hikes.
You may submit your program via a Google Form at this link: https://bit.ly/3TtnkJ5  If you would like a .docx or .pdf form to fill out, please email Michelle at mmrathga@uark.edu
The deadline to get your event listed on the events calendar is Thursday, January 15, 2026.
For more information on Arkansas Archeology Month or for ideas from past years that can be retooled for 2026, please look at past Archeology Month web pages linked below.
The ARAS and AAS will be hosting Celebrate Archeology Day events on March 7th (in Fayetteville) and (tentatively) March 28th (in Monticello). If you are in those regions and interested in collaborating on those events, please email Michelle. We encourage other organizations to plan events on those dates as well, but wanted to invite collaboration with local organizations where possible.
We look forward to seeing your programs! Please feel free to contact Michelle at 479-575-3961 or mmrathga@uark.edu if you have any questions or concerns.
