The Arkansas Archeological Survey is accepting applications for an Archeological Assistant, a full-time, benefits eligible position located at the Coordinating Office in Fayetteville. Duties of the Archaeological Assistant include: intensive fieldwork (requiring in-state travel, walking long distances and lifting/carrying heavy equipment), collections processing and data analysis, record keeping, and occasionally supervising volunteers in the field, all under the direction of the Director of Archeogeophysical Research. Opportunities exist for conducting independent research projects as appropriate.
Regular, reliable, and non-disruptive attendance is an essential job duty, as is the ability to create and maintain collegial, harmonious working relationships with others.

Minimum Qualifications:
-
A Bachelor’s degree in anthropology or a related field from an accredited institution of higher education
-
Archeological field experience in North America, east of the Rocky Mountains
-
Archeological lab experience
-
Experience in working with archeological records and collections
.
Preferred Qualifications:
-
M.A. in Anthropology/Archeology from an accredited institution of higher education
-
Experience working with archeogeophysical technologies
-
Experience with the use of total station for mapping, and proficiency in using ArcGIS software
-
Experience with the archeology of Southeastern North America
-
Experience working with and writing for the public
.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs):
-
Knowledge of the general practice of North American archeology
-
Knowledge of basic computer applications (MS Office, etc.) and field electronics (GNSS/GPS, Total Stations, etc.)
-
Skill in basic archeological field and lab procedures
-
Ability to work with other staff, avocational archeologists, and the general public
-
Ability to work independently and meet internal deadlines
